Sally Gardens was the very first piece that I took with the Christy Lynn group. I kind of got it to the end, but every time I played there was some hesitations and I could never get it quite right.
Then I downloaded other lessons and it went the same way. Basically it takes me FOREVER to get it 80% right. But the next 20% took FOREVER SQUARED (you guessed it: I am a slow learner).
I have to say that, at the age of 73, the harp is my very first instrument and I have no previous music playing experience, and zero training in music reading.
I got discouraged but kept playing simple pieces on and off almost every day for the next months but no more than 5 or 10 minutes at a time.
Then recently, I took again the Sally Gardens sheet music and practiced again on my own for a few minutes a day. Suddenly it felt much easier. May be the muscle memory came back again. Now I can play the whole piece flawlessly every time. Yeah!!!
As for the accuracy of the sheet music instruction I find it much easier to substitute my own bracket for the last note of measure 13 and the first 3 notes of measure 13 (using fingers 1 2 3 4 instead of the ones suggested). For that reason I would give it a 4.5 stars. But since there are no half stars, I gave it a 4.

This was one of Christy’s earlier lessons, and it doesn’t break the song down into as small parts as some of her later lesson plans. It took me longer than usual to learn it, but it was worth it and sounds lovely!

I absolutely enjoy the way you teach how to play the harp, Christy-Lyn! I need so much one on one, and am a beginner in music, period. The way you explain and encourage to stop the video, practice until confidence is gained on a certain action, then proceed with the lesson at my own time frame is wonderful… I don’t feel stressed at all learning… thanks so much for your time!

I loved this song and like many of the others I own of Christy’s music it was written with great fingering, lovely sound and not so complicated you can’t learn and still grow from the piece. I had to work at this a little to make sure I placed my fingers properly (which made for an excellent exercise) and the piece had a wonderfully enjoyable melody with the fullness you look for. Many easier music done by other writers is easy but they have cut out all of the melodical energy in the songs. Not Christy-Lyn! She captures all the fun and enjoyability of playing a song while you learn and grow. I am so glad I found this site. I have grown in leaps and bounds. This review is as much about this particular song as her other music that I own. You can’t go wrong with any of her sheet music. If you like Sally’s Garden — I think you will love this version.

Dear Christy-Lyn,
It has been a complete joy to grow in the beauty of the harp with your video lessons. They are absorbing and relaxing. My overall characterization would be “Progress with Confidence” ~ the goal I feel assured to reach with each course, as I have with this Sally Gardens course. Thank you for your thorough, stress-free, challenging yet achievable lessons! God bless you!

I enrolled in this class with a free trial, just to see what the experience was like. The course is well laid out and easy to navigate and I felt the video segments were time just about right. For an online static course, the videos were supportive in tone and encouraging. Having had in person harp classes years ago, I felt the note-by-note explanation/direction just a tad tiring. This is late beginner, so I thought the ‘now place XYZ’ was a bit basic. But overall it is worth the price for the course.

I have never played the harp before learning Sally Gardens. I am 36 learning something very new. It was clear enough to teach a complete beginner how to play. I love how everything is broken down and so easy to understand.

I originally learned SALLY GARDENS without the course. I enjoy this arrangement so much. Even as a more advanced player, I turn to this piece again and again. I recently used the course as a review, to help me slow down and really concentrate on the placement of the notes. I think I will also use it as an aid to memorize the song. A wonderful arrangement and a fun teacher! Thanks, Christy-Lyn.

I’ve always loved this harp tune, I find it tranquil, and idyllic. I am so happy, thanks to Christy-Lyn’s tutorial, to be able to play it myself now! I learned it last year from her tutorial, then, quickly moved onto other tunes, stopped practicing, and forgot it. I am so happy, that once purchased, we can go back and review it again. I found that a quick review had me playing it again proficiently in just a couple of hours! This time, I will keep it in my rotation!
